Legalized marijuana is a horrific and frightening demon that will result in many social casualties across America; at least that is the opinion of Drug Enforcement Administration chief of operations James Capra, who during a recent Senate hearing, went on a wild-eyed tirade, calling the elimination of marijuana prohibition in the United States “reckless and irresponsible.”
“It scares us,” Capra said during the hearing. “Every part of the world where this has been tried, it has failed time and time again.”
After voters legalized marijuana in Colorado and Washington in 2012, the U.S. Department of Justice announced that it would not intervene with individual state marijuana laws as a means for enforcing the federal ban. However, when one senator made mention of this federal policy, Capra responded, “Marijuana is still a Schedule I controlled substance…it’s illegal, so we’re still enforcing law.”
Capra admitted that agents have been scouring Colorado since the first day of legalized recreation sales, and says he is shocked by what is going on throughout most of the state.
“There are more dispensaries in Denver than there are Starbucks,” said Capra. “The idea somehow… that this is somehow good for us as a nation, that this is good for the next generation coming up is wrong. It’s a bad thing, and this body will get its door knocked on ten years from now and say, ‘How did we get where we got?’”
He says that during a recent anti-narcotics conference in Moscow, many foreign officials expressed concern to him over the United States loosening its drug laws. “Almost everyone looked at us and said: Why are you doing this [while] pointing a finger to us as a source state?” he said. “I don’t have an answer for them.”
Capra also believe that federal drug agents are misunderstood. “People think that DEA and law enforcement officers around the world are interested in Billy and his bong in his basement,” he said. “What DEA has always been interested in is the trafficking groups that want Billy to be puffing on his bong.”
